Help: Basic Appearance Editor

← Back to Help Index

As you can probably guess, the Basic Appearance Editor is SigFeeder's most basic, simplest SigFeed appearance editor. However, it's plenty powerful enough to make your SigFeed uniquely your own. You may wish to use the Advanced Appearance Editor for more graphical control.

Please note that your SigFeed will be "downgraded" if you've previously saved it using the Advanced editor, then save it using the Basic editor; features unique to the Advanced editor such as custom fonts, background images, and so on will be lost. Also, the Konqueror web browser currently has problems with the color chooser controls this editor uses.

To use the Basic Appearance Editor, select "Change Appearance (Basic)" from the Action menu beneath the SigFeed you want to change on the Your SigFeeds page.

Here's a run-down of the various sections of the Basic editor page.

Current appearance

This is what your SigFeed currently looks like. Note that this does not update in "real time" as you modify the controls. However, after you submit your changes, you will be taken back to the Basic editor page, and this image will be changed to reflect your changes.

Title

This is pretty self-explanatory; it's the text that appears at the top of your SigFeed.

Background Color & Text Color

Also fairly self-explanatory. Select the color you wish to use for each from the grid; feel free to experiment to find color pairings that match your needs. Be careful not to set the background and text to use the same color, or your SigFeed will be illegible! (If you can't seem to get these controls to work, make sure your browser has JavaScript enabled, then reload the page.)

Icon

Your SigFeed can feature an image on the left side. By default, when you first create your SigFeed, it will be a simple silhouette of a person; you probably want to change it to something more interesting. Use these controls to do so. Or, if you prefer, you can delete the image and have a purely-textual SigFeed. The image can be no larger than 60 pixels wide by 60 pixels high; if it is larger than that, it will be downscaled proportionately. The images you upload can be in GIF, PNG, JPEG or Windows bitmap (BMP) format. If you upload a GIF or PNG image with transparency (an alpha channel), SigFeeder will attempt to preserve its transparency as it pastes it into your SigFeed (this will work best if SigFeeder doesn't need to downscale it, so make sure that the image you upload is already 60x60 pixels or smaller).

Draw border

This simply draws a border in the same color as the text color around your SigFeed. It can help you make your SigFeeder stand out a bit from the things surrounding it when you use it in your signature. You may wish to uncheck it if you want it to blend in better; as with everything else on this page, feel free to experiment to find exactly the look you're looking for.
